CIJS is honored to host saxophonist Dr. Reginald Lewis and his acclaimed sextet (featuring Dr. Emma Taylor - Bass, Dr. Maxwell Osawa - Drums, Kurt Reeder - Piano, Gabriel Wade - Trumpet, and Jeremiah St. John - Trombone) at the Trailside on July 19 following an opening set by the all-star CIJS House Band.
An alumnus of the University of Illinois School of Music who was recently featured in Downbeat magazine, Dr. Lewis has graced major stages, including the TD Bank Winnipeg Jazz Festival, Hyde Park Jazz Festival, Chicago Jazz Festival, and the CU Jazz Festival, with his legendary sound.
The grandson of legendary Philadelphia saxophonist Robert "Bootsie" Barnes, Dr. Lewis is the Director of Jazz Studies at Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington. He has served as Adjudicator and Clinician for the Illinois State Jazz Festival, Purdue Jazz Festival, and the Eastern Illinois University Jazz Festival. Dr. Lewis released his debut album, Echoes of Cherry Street, in August 2025. Check out Reggie’s latest tracks on Soundcloud below.
